Taking part in a contest and doing well combines many of the skills we learn as radio amateurs:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u00b7\u00a0Constructing or putting together an efficient station\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00b7\u00a0Knowledge of propagation\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00b7\u00a0Design and construction of antennas\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00b7\u00a0Operating skill\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00b7\u00a0Power distribution and safety\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00b7\u00a0Digital and weak signal techniques &#8230;.and many, many more.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can take part as an individual from home or join us on one of the many multi-operator events we take part in, mostly from Gary&#8217;s (G6NYH) field which is in an electrically quiet rural location. Success comes from experience and learning from others but primarily contesting is a fun activity!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Individual events supported by the club that you can participate in from home or as a portable\/ mobile station are:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7VHF\/UHF Activity Contests (UKACs) on 50\/70\/144\/432\/1296 MHz (SSB and CW)&nbsp;\u00b7VHF\/UHF FM Activity Contests on 144\/432 MHz (FM)<br>\u00b7Club Championship on 3.5 MHz (SSB, CW and Datamodes)<br>\u00b7AFS (Affiliated Society contests) on 1.8\/3.5\/7 MHz (SSB, CW and Datamodes)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other contests we usually take part in are:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u00b7\u00a01st\u00a070 MHz (April)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00b7\u00a01st\u00a050 MHz (April)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00b7\u00a050 MHz Trophy (June)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00b7\u00a0VHF NFD (July)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00b7\u00a0144 MHz Trophy (September)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00b7\u00a070 MHz AFS (September)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00b7\u00a050 MHz AFS (October)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00b7\u00a0144 MHz AFS (December)\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For more details of these RSGB contests with dates, times and rules see:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsgbcc.org\/cgi-bin\/readcal.pl\">https:\/\/www.rsgbcc.org\/cgi-bin\/readcal.pl<\/a>&nbsp;(VHF\/UHF contests)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsgbcc.org\/hf\/\">https:\/\/www.rsgbcc.org\/hf\/&nbsp;<\/a>(HF contests)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information on the above and any other contesting matters email me: <a href=\"mailto:g4czb@hotmail.co.uk\">g4czb@hotmail.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Suggestions of contests for the club to support are always welcome.
